A Center for Being

A Center for Being is both an art space and meditation center, an urban sanctuary for rest and wonder, serving the Bay Area and beyond.

We Provide:

-   A non-denominational gathering place for all beings devoted to, or curious about, awakening to ultimate reality through silent inquiry and master inter-faith teachers. 

-   An aesthetically rich art environment where sensory interaction with large scale, long term, commissioned art installations are avenues to direct unmediated experience with the moment. 

-   A welcoming and sincere gathering place devoted to beauty and truth, devoid of traditional religious iconography and home to artistic invention.

-  An urban retreat with generous open hours for people to gather in silent inquiry. We claim no particular faith or tradition, albeit honor the traditions of silence that occur across cultures and in all faiths.

We are taxed these days with multiple layers of commitments and intrusions. Rest is rare; our bodies & spirits play second fiddle to our minds, technologies, and commerce. At the Center, we return to the basics. Our senses, breath, and awareness. We gather freely together at the very ground of being, devoted to life & life’s mysteries.

- Supporting artists

Site-responsive art can be a doorway to experiencing present awareness. We value artists who tend to particular pecularities of space and materials. We believe that artists serve a profound cultural role and deserve abundant compensation for their work in the creative realms.

- Gift Economics

We believe everyone should have access to these resources. We do not charge entrance or membership fees, but instead rely on dana, or the generosity of our community. We believe that everyone is generous of heart, and pocket when able, and that everyone deserves ultimate freedom, and a quiet and beautiful space.
